WW1 Memorial Plaque named CHARLES CLARK FYFE.
Charles Clark Fyfe born 11th Apr 1896 in Forfar, educated at Forfar Academy and was a bank clerk before the war. He enlisted into the 5th Black Watch regiment numbered 3607 on 31st Mar 1916 as a Private. He landed in France on 11th July 1916 attached to the 1/7th Battalion renumbered 6940 and then 293009. He took part in the First Battle of the Somme but became sick in the field on 29th Sep 1916 and took some time to get better.
On 31st July 1917 he gained a commission with the 6th Black Watch. In March 1918 he was stationed in the trenches near Beughy, France and on the 21st Mar 1918 the Germans launched the great push by first launching artillery and gas on the line and then attacking in great numbers. The battalion suffered 609 casualties over the next few days, 509 missing in action - Charles was listed as being in the front lines and being cut off. He was listed as missing in action with a report of him lying badly wounded. He was declared killed in action on 21st Mar 1918 aged 22 years old and is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
