WW1 Memorial Plaque named GILBERT COOKE.
Gilbert Cooke was born in 1895 in Rhondda, Glamorgan the Son of Thomas & Maria Cooke of 23 Glamorgan Terra, Penrhiwfer, Rhondda, Glamorgan. He enlisted in the 7th Somerset Light Infantry and landed in France on 24th Jul 1915.
On 24th Mar 1918 the Germans launched a massive attack pushing the division back to the Hanguard Bridgehead where the 7th Somerset Light Infantry held on. By the 31st Mar 1918 they had lost 11 killed in action, 60 wounded in action and 405 missing in action, sadly Gilbert was one of the killed in action on the 28th Mar 1918. He was only 21 years old and is buried at Bard Cottage Cemetery, Belgium.
