      Description:

      WW1 Military Medal named G27310 PTE F RABEY 1/8 MIDDX R TF, British War & Victory Medals named G27310 PTE F RABY MIDDX R. Note spelling of surname on pair.


      Frank Rabey born 6th Aug 1893 in Kilburn and is noted in the 1911 Census as a Library Assistant. When WW1 started he joined the 1/8th Middlesex Regiment numbered G/27310. His battalion witnessed heavy fighting at the Battles of Arras and Langermarck in 1917, spending the late autumn in Ypres pursuing the Germans towards the Hindenburg Line for which he was awarded the Military Medal LG 2nd Nov 1917. He transferred to the 21st Battalion and is noted as being made a Prisoner of War on 9th Apr 1918 at Fleurbaix when the village was captured by the Germans. He survived the war as is listed in the 1939 Census as a Police Constable in Bermondsey, London.
