WW1 Military Medal named 204541 PTE D COOKE 15/HANTS R.
David Cooke was from Teddington when he enlisted into the 15th Devonshire Regiment numbered 315840 before transferring over to the 15th Hampshire Regiment numbered 204541.
He was awarded an MM LG 12th Dec 1917 for the Battle of Ypres for Sept 1917. During the month of Sept 1917 the regiment lost 9 officers killed or wounded and 294 others ranks killed or wounded. Since May 1917 they had lost loads of men and finally at the end of Sept 1917 the regiment was re-organised and merged with the Hampshire Yeomanry to bring them back up to strength.
David Cooke was a member of the Twickenham Rowing Club and is remembered on the Eel Pie Island war memorial.
