British War & Victory Medals named CAPT J TAIT. No other Capt J Tait.
James Tait was born in Coxhoe, Durham around 1874 and was a 30 year old fitter working at Carlton Iron Works, Ferryhill when he enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry numbered 116921 and 25471. He train and rose through the ranks to become a Sgt and then offered a commission in 1915. He was appointed a 2nd Lt in Sept 1915 in 2/7th Battalion, Temp Lt in Sept 1915, Temp Capt Sept 1916. He was attached at some time to the 2/1st London Regt TF and was killed in action on 16th June 1917 at the Battle of Arras.
A local paper ran an article confirming he was killed and was the Son of Mr William Tait of Blackgate, Coxhoe, Durham and the nephew of Mrs James Tait of Belgrave House, Coxhoe, Durham.
