      Description:

      British War & Victory Medal mid emblem named CAPT W M GARTSHORE.


      William Moir Gartshore born 19th May 1889 was educated at McGill University, Montreal, where he was a member of the 1911 American Football team. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Artillery (Territorial Force) on 2 Oct 1914, made Temp Lt 1st July 1915 and served with Ayrshire Royal Horse Artillery during the Great War in Egypt from 10 Feb 1916. He was wounded in Palestine on 4 Aug 1916, made Adjujant and granted rank of acting Capt 28th Sept 1917, he was advanced Captain and was Mentioned in General Sir E. H. H. Allenby’s Despatch of 23 Oct 1918 (LG 22 Jan 1919). He died in Nov 1969.

      Sold with research and photo of the recipient as part of his University Football team.
