      British War & Victory Medals named 44650 PTE T A WALKER LINC R & Memorial Plaque named THOMAS ARNOLD WALKER.


      Thomas Arnold Walker was born in 1899 in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, educated at Oakes Council School and was a grocer's assistant to the local Wallace chain in Huddersfield. He enlisted via the Derby scheme joining in early 1916 in the 52nd Graduation Battalion, West Yorkshire Regt numbered 94750 before joining the 2/5th Lincolnshire Regt numbered 44650. He age would see him able to go to war from Apr 1917. They saw service in Ireland beforehand but landed in France in Feb 1917. The German Offensive of Mar 1918 saw 17 Lindley men were killed in the fighting. Thomas was killed in action (accepted death) on 15th Apr 1918 when the 2/5th Battalion were surrounded South of Bailleul with fighting at close quarters, at least 79 men of his battalion were killed in this action. Sadly he has no named grave and is remembered on the Ploegsteet Memoirial near Ypres.
