British War & Victory Medal named 38091 PTE R A MASON DEVON R.
Richard Alexander Mason lived in Davenport, born 1897 and was a labourer when he enlisted into the Devonshire Regiment numbered 38091. He landed in France with the 1st Battalion before transferring to the 8th Battalion. On the 2nd Oct 1917 the battalion were at Polygon Wood, Belgium when they attacked the Germans on 4th Oct 1917 causing over 280 casualties. Sadly Richard was a casualty and was reported missing in action on that day and eventually presumed killed in action. He is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial in Belgium.
