WW1 British War & Victory Medals named S LT R H PAWSON RNVR.
Robert Henry Pawsonwas born on 11th Nov 1886, the third son of the Rev. Lewis Pawson, Rector of Kildale, Grosmont, Yorkshire. He was educated at Middlesborough High School and started being articled to Messrs Belk, Cochrane and Belk solicitors of Middlesborough. He became a solicitor in 1911. WW1 came and he enlisted into the 4th Yorkshire Regiment before gaining a commission on 22nd Nov 1916 in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Temp Sub Lt. He trained with the 4th Reserve Battalion at Blandford in Dec 1916 before being sent to France with the Nelson Battalion Royal Naval Division on 8th Feb 1917. Transferred to Drake Battalion on 7th Feb 1918. He was listed as missing in action on 25 March 1918 and then confirmed as killed in action. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
