WW1 Victory Medal named 16881 PTE S FREEZER SUFF R.
Stanley Freezer born in 1895 in Shipdham, Norfolk enlisted into the 11th Suffolk Regt numbered 16881. The battalion were tasked with capturing La Boisselle and advancing to Contalmaison. The 10th Lincolns let the first wave with the 11th Suffolks to pass through and capture the second objective. The attack was met with heavy machine-gun fire and devasting artillery, causing tragic losses in a matter of hours. They suffered the highest casualties of any battalion in the 34th Division. Of the 800 men who advanced, 190 were killed and 337 were wounded, leaving 691 total casualties. Stanley was killed in action on 1st Jul 1916.
