Arthur Burdon born 18th Oct 1910 in Chester Castle, Chester was a painter when he enlisted in Portsmouth on 31st July 1926 numbered JX/127542. He started as a Boy 2nd class on HMS Tanges and then a Signal Boy. HMS Victory, HMS Iron Duke between 1927 to 1928 and then HMS Suffolk where he became a Signal Man to 1930. Next back to HMS Victory and on to HMS Heather (Torrid) & Warspite 1931 to 1932. HMS Victory (Windsor) and Greenwich 1932 to 1934. HMS Cornefants, St Anglo II (Acheron), (Boadicea) & (Keppel) between 1934 to 1937 by now a Leading Signalman. HMS Victory, St Angelo, London, Malaya, Hood & Caledonia between 1937 to Sept 1939 now a Yeoman of Signals. WW2 starts and he is on HMS St George to 8th May 1940, HMS Southern Prince (minelayer) to 5th Mar 1942, she was hit by a torpedo fired from U652 on 25/26th Aug 1941 off Iceland. Awarded a MID LG 1st July 1941. HMS Mercury till 15th May 1942 by now a Chief Yeoman of Signals, HMS Sirius till 24th Sep 1942 running russian convoys. HMS Malagas till 9th Jan 1943 a airbase, HMS Queen of Bermuda till 4th May 1943 armed merchant cruiser and then HMS Mercury till 17th Jul 1943. Next HMS Excellent II (Evolution) and then renamed (Odyssey) till 14th June 1944, Awarded LS&GC 8th Apr 1945. HMS Mercury the signals school till 25th Oct 1944, HMS Ayr airbase till 19th Nov 1944, HMS Wagtail airbase till 1st Sep 1945 & finally HMS Mercury till 29th Dec 1945 when he was declared unfit for Naval Service after 19 years service.
