Leslie Thomas Seagar born 24th Apr 1927 in Lawford, Essex was a 1st Electrical Officer till he retired in 1987 with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. In 1982 he was put abroad RFA Sir Galahad joining on the 1st Feb 1982 at Marchwood.
On 6th Apr 1982 RFA Sir Galahad was part of the British Task Force in the Falklands War sailing with about 350 marines onboard. She arrive in San Carlos waters on 21st May 1982. Three days later on 24th May she was attacked by a formation of Argentina aircraft and a 1,000 lb bomb hit the ship and lodged inside the ship but did not go off. The bomb was carried off the ship into a inflatable boat filled with cornflake boxes and sank away from the ship.
On 8th June, when offloading the Welsh Guards in Port Pleasant, Fitzroy she was attacked by three Argentina Skyhawks and was hit by two or three 500 lb bombs which denotated and started massive fires around the ship. This caused the death of 5 crewmen and 33 soldiers, 32 of whom were members of the Welsh Guards. More than 100 individuals were wounded in the attack.
Later on the burnt out hull was taken out to sea and torpedoed on the 21st June 1982 as a Memorial.
