Stanley Ellis Bywater served with the 5th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) during the Second Word War, and was killed in action on Monastery Hill at Monte Cassino on 21 January 1944. He is buried in Cassino War Cemetery, Italy.
The 5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters landed in Italy in Sept 1943 on Uncle Beach and took part in the attack on the town of Cassino and the surrounding hills.
At the age of 23 years old Stanley was killed as a Company Quartermaster Sergeant and was the Son of Ellis and Forence Bywater who in 1939 were living at 11 Labumum Grove, Derby.
